Technical Coatings
Azotic Coating Technology offers a wide range of sputtered metallic, oxide and nitride films. Reactive sputtering of metal oxides, carbides and nitrides is our specialty. The films produced by reactive sputtering are hard and dense and generally exhibit excellent adhesion. Substrate temperatures are low, usually below 80 degrees C. Almost anything solid and vacuum compatible (nonporous) can be coated. We have coated glass, quartz, sapphire, diamond, silicon, ceramics, metals, plastics, crystals, biocompatible materials and even insects.
Sputtered films are commonly used as barriers, conductors, insulators, adhesion layers, seed layers for plating, friction reducers, decoration, hard coatings, brazing layers.
Azotic Coating has three sputtering machines and can coat parts up to 12 inches on a side. We have a three shift seven day a week schedule. Fast turnaround of difficult jobs is our specialty.
Small parts can be manufactured in the millions per year. If you have a very large job Azotic will install new equipment to meet your production needs.
Whether it's one part or a million Azotic Coating's tool shop can produce tooling to maximize film uniformity. Proper tooling to hold the part during coating is usually very important to good results. Orientation of the substrate and movement through the coating plasma determine the thickness uniformity and to a lesser extent, the deposit quality. Azotic Coating engineers have extensive experience in fixture tooling for low cost and high performance. If you need only a few parts coated the chances are good that we have a fixture that can be used.
Masking the substrate is often required to prevent coating certain areas. We have several methods for masking the coating depending on your application. The coating may also be dissolved off of select areas by wet chemical or plasma etching.
Azotic has a $500 minimum charge, which is used towards initial tooling, engineering, technician time, machine setup and sputtering time. Most small jobs and trial runs will fit in the minimum charge. The breakdown is as follows:
- Engineering: $85 per hour
- Technician time: $45 per hour
- Machine time (sputtering) $200 per hour
